Katara exhibition explores the art of wood engraving

Katara - the Cultural Village Foundation general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti has inaugurated an exhibition titled ‘Engraving on Wood’, featuring the works of artist Abdelaziz al-Kuwari, it has been announced. The exhibition will continue until January 30, Katara said in a press statement. The exhibition includes 35 artworks by the Qatari artist, created with “assurance, precision, craftsmanship and a high level of skills inherited from the Qatari heritage”, the statement notes.
The artist used high-quality wood from Germany, the US, India and Africa for his works, according to Katara. On display are exhibits of different types and sizes, ranging from the doors of Qatari houses, clothing and jewellery boxes to furniture used in the palaces and houses of former rulers and dignitaries in Qatar. The exhibition highlights the aesthetics of wood engraving, which has a long history in the world of arts and has also been used extensively to decorate buildings and homes in addition to adorning mosques, the Holy Qur’an and boxes, the statement adds.
