Politicians react to Imran Khan’s marriage reports

Reportsof Imran Khan’s third marriage started making rounds over the weekend,finally prompting the party to release an official statement saying thatthe Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman had extended a marriageproposal to a woman named Bushra Maneka.Awami Muslim League chiefSheikh Rasheed Ahmed expressed ignorance about the matter: “[I don’tknow] if Imran Khan has married or not it’s his personal matter. But ifhe has contracted marriage, it’s good for him!”Federal Minister for Defence Production and Science and Technology Rana Tanveer congratulated the PTI chief.“Congratulations to him. He [Imran Khan] will marry one more time before the 2018 elections,” the minister jibed.JamiatUlema-e-Islam – Fazlur (JUI-F) Senator Hafiz Hamdullah said that itneeds to be investigated “whether Imran ruined anyone’s domestic life totie the knot”.“Imran is an expert of an offshore company and anoffshore marriage as well,” he said, adding that a Joint InvestigationTeam should be formed to investigate the matter.Awami National Party (ANP) leader Shahi Syed was critical.“Imran Khan should not have [looked at] a woman he [consulted] for spiritual guidance [with such an intention],” he remarked.PTI leader Shireen Mazari, however, rejected the reports.“Ridiculous!When the SC deprives IK’s detractors of doing accusatory stories ofcorruption, they create stories of his marriage! Somewhat pathetic too!”she tweeted earlier.Adviser to Prime Minister Ameer Muqam has saidthat Imran Khan is destined only to wear engagement rings and weddingsherwanis and not to become the prime minister.He has done a hat-trick of marriages and donning a new sherwani in the year 2018.Pakistan People’s Party leader Aajiz Dhamra has wondered why Imran Khan is keeping it secret if he has solemnised a marriage.Heremarked that by keeping his marriages secret and “telling lies aboutit”, he is no more sadiq and ameen (honest and righteous).Knownastrologist Mamun has advised Imran Khan not to contract a marriage atthe moment, as September would be a better time for him for the purpose.He said that if Khan contracted marriage in haste, it could cause problems in his married as well as political life.PTIleader and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak has saidthat no formal announcement is necessary if one contracts a marriage.He also said that if Imran Khan has contracted a marriage, he has done a good thing.
