Qatar Charity honours 100 orphan students in Kenya

High-achieving orphan students gathered at a special ceremony to celebrate their success and receive the awards.
QatarCharity (QC) has awarded 100 orphan students, along with their mothers,in Kenya for achieving academic excellence in the 2016/2017 schoolyear.High-achieving orphan students, their families and teachingstaff gathered at a special ceremony held by QC to celebrate theirsuccess and receive the awards. “This tradition has been always aprominent aspect of Qatar Charity’s sponsorship strategy to encouragebrilliant orphans for their academic achievements,” QC said in astatement.Acknowledging their efforts in raising the orphans, QCalso awarded the mothers for providing continuous support to thechildren despite their poor economic condition. Mohamed Hussein,QC regional director in Kenya, addressed the students and encouragedthem to exert more efforts to maintain the academic excellence. He alsothanked and praised their mothers for the role they have played insupporting the children.  At the honorary reception, bright orphan students and their mothers received awards and certificates of excellence. RoqyaaIbrahim Ismail, one of the awarded students, said: “No words are enoughto express how I feel. I would like to thank our sponsors in Qatar andpraise their unwavering faith in our cause. I would also like to thankQatar Charity for its pivotal role in promoting education and sponsoringorphans’ advocacy.” Qatar Charity awarded 50 mothers, celebrating their dedication and hard work in raising the children. HawaHarbi, on behalf of the attending mothers, delivered a speech saying:“We deem the Qatari people as brothers and sisters who spare no effortsin advocating our cause and standing for our children.” She also praised QC’s dedication and support to promoting educational projects in Kenya.  Meanwhile,as part of its social care mission, QC has recently sponsored 655 poorfamilies, 165 Qur’an teachers and 127 persons with special needs inSomalia, the statement notes. Accordingly, the total number of QCsponsorships in Somalia has reached 1,500 individuals. Throughsponsorships and contributions in Somalia, QC works to fight the“devastating drought that has engulfed some African countries over theyears”, the statement adds.
