The Met department has said strong winds are expected in parts of thecountry by midday today, following yet another spell of fog, mist andpoor visibility in the morning.Low visibility is also likely in offshore areas in the early hours ofthe day, and there is a warning for windy conditions and high seas bythe evening.Southeasterly-southwesterly winds will blow at 3-10 knots inland, whichwill turn northwesterly with speeds of 10-20 knots that may go up to 28knots in some places, according to the weather report.Offshore, southeasterly-southwesterly winds will blow at 3-13 knots,which will also become northwesterly and have speeds of 15-25 knots bythe evening.The detailed forecast says hazy to misty/foggy conditions are expectedinland in the early hours, which will be followed by moderatetemperatures and slight to blowing dust in some places along withscattered clouds.Visibility may drop to 2km or less in certain areas in the morning hours.The report says offshore areas, too, are likely to experience hazy tomisty/foggy conditions in some places at first. Slight dust is expectedat times and it will also be partly cloudy later. The sea level may riseto 8ft by the evening.On Sunday, the Met department had said windy conditions were expected toprevail in the country on Tuesday and Wednesday, while marine warningswould be in place until Thursday.The minimum temperature today is expected to be 9C in Abu Samra, Wakrahand Mesaieed, and 13C in Doha. Yesterday, the minimum was 8C inMesaieed, 9C in Abu Samra and 10C in Batna, while in Doha it was 13C.Meanwhile, different parts of Qatar continued to experience dense fogyesterday. Urging people to be cautious, the Met department tweetedyesterday morning that “widespread fog and poor visibility” continued toprevail in most parts of the country. A gradual improvement invisibility was expectedafter 9am.An alert for fog and poor visibility was issued at night as well, withthe Met department stating that the conditions were likely to continueuntil this morning.On its part, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) reminded motorists yesterdaymorning to “pay extra attention while driving” as poor horizontalvisibility was recorded on most external roads due to fog.The MoI had earlier issued an advisory on safe driving during foggy conditions.
