Medical City to redefine healthcare in the region

Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) new Medical City complex, the biggesthealthcare facility expansion in the region, will bring new services andcare options to create a patient-centred healing environment for Qatarresidents.Once fully operational, the three new hospitals – Qatar RehabilitationInstitute, Women’s Wellness and Research Center, and the Ambulatory CareCenter – will house 500 new hospital beds and 3,000 highly trainedclinical and support staff. The size of 35 soccer pitches, the facilities have a number of uniquefeatures. It is the home to the largest rehabilitation hospital in theregion; Qatar Rehabilitation Institute (QRI), at 38,000sq m, is the sizeof five soccer pitches. The QRI houses seven indoor heated hydrotherapy pools, each with thehighest water quality standards, and 11 rehabilitation gyms. It has morethan 2,000m of pneumatic tubes crisscrossing the three hospitals, andtransport medicine and lab specimens to various units within thehospitals in minutes.The complex has the  largest healthcare kitchen in the Middle East whichis able to deliver up to 4,000 meals a day to patients and catering formore than 65 different diets. The 17,000 babies born each year at theWomen’s Wellness and Research Centre will get the best start in lifewith more than 100 neonatal intensive care cots, seven operatingtheatres, 26 labour and delivery rooms, and 50 outpatient examinationrooms. The Ambulatory Care Centre, which is delivering outpatient andday surgery services, is equipped with state-of-the-art theatres, anextensive radiology unit, examination suites and treatment rooms, and 12examination rooms for ENT and audiology.“This is a project of immense size and complexity,” said HMC’s chief ofhealthcare facilities Hamad al-Khalifa. “It is a significant improvementin space, environment, and infrastructure compared to current HMCfacilities — a state-of-the-art home for an increasing range ofinnovative services offering new models of care.”“Our Medical City hospitals are delivering on a promise to expandworld-class facilities for the people of Qatar,” continued al-Khalifa.“But this is not just about the bricks and mortar – the dedicated andhighly-qualified clinical and support teams staffing these facilitieswill also deliver high-quality, compassionate care to every patient.”Dr Abdulla al-Ansari, acting chief medical officer at HMC said theopening of the new hospitals is the culmination of many years of carefulplanning and hard work. “Our new hospitals provide a state-of-the-art home for a range ofinnovative services and new integrated models of care. Designed with theexperience of our patients and their families in mind, we aredelivering on a promise to expand world-class facilities,” said Dral-Ansari.Earlier this month, Ali Abdullah al-Khater, HMC’s chief communicationsofficer and chair of the Healthcare Communications Committee, announcedthe launch of a website dedicated exclusively to the new Medical CityHospitals.
