Doha to host Interpol meet on human trafficking

Under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, the fifth edition of the Interpol Global Conference against Trafficking in Human Beings and Smuggling of Migrants will be held in Doha, on December 6.The conference will be preceded by an expert group meeting and a training session on December 4-5, to review policies and procedures adopted by countries to combat human trafficking.The conference, organised by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), in co-operation with the Qatar’s Ministry of Interior and the National Committee against Trafficking in Human Beings, aims to develop skills to develop a precise and sophisticated definition of the concepts of human trafficking and how to identify victims, the means and tools used by trafficking gangs, to co-ordinate the local and international efforts, exchange information in combating the phenomenon, as well as to train individuals and institutions concerned on how to provide legal, humanitarian and economic assistance, and to co-ordinate and develop awareness campaigns in combating this phenomenon.The conference will discuss major international developments and key issues in the fight against trafficking in human beings, smuggling of migrants. It will also focus on redefining measures to combat trafficking in human beings and discuss international co-operation, especially with the private sector and relevant NGOs.More than 300 ministers, parliamentarians and experts from more than 90 countries, as well as international and governmental organisations, civil society and major corporations from all over the world, will attend the conference.HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs and chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi said that Qatar’s hosting of the International Conference on Combating Human Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants is evidence of the effective role played by the country locally and internationally in the fight against this phenomenon and reflects its keenness to preserve human dignity.He explained that the vision of the National Committee against Trafficking in Human Beings is to combat and eradicate the phenomenon of human trafficking in all its forms and concepts in the country among  all groups so that the Qatari society would enjoy security and stability, pointing out that this goal is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which is to establish a society based on justice, charity and equality.This conference comes as part of Qatar’s efforts to combat this dangerous phenomenon and to join international efforts in this regard, in accordance with Law No 15 of 2011 on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and highlighting the effective role played locally and internationally in combating this phenomenon, and country’s efforts to combat all forms of corruption and to enhance security, as well as to consolidate the concepts of prevention, suppression and combating human trafficking by establishing a society based on justice, charity and equality.
