HBKU in five-year Kuwait pact to fund research
Hamad Bin KhalifaUniversity (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Science, Education,and Community Development, and the Kuwait Institute for ScientificResearch (KISR) signed a five-year partnership agreement, cementing acommitment to collaborate on and fund joint research projects betweenthem. The partnership aims to advance initiatives between the twoGulf countries and the strong commitment to the shared vision betweenQatar and Kuwait. The agreement was signed by Dr Ahmad M Hasnah,president of HBKU, and Dr Samira Omar, director general of KISR, markingthe establishment of a joint committee for co-operation, to oversee theimplementation of the provisions of the agreement, and to agree onfuture projects going forward.The collaboration means that bothinstitutions will co-ordinate efforts to facilitate an encouragingenvironment for innovative minds to conduct scientific research. Thiswill materialise through the provision of training, funding,laboratories, as well as other resources. In addition, both entitieshave pledged faculty supervisors to assist in assessing graduate thesesand projects of the other institution. Dr Hasnah said: “HBKU’sstrategic vision is built upon the foundational pillars of innovationand developing partnerships that facilitate and encourage a uniquelearning ecosystem for our scholars, researchers and students. Ourpartnership with KISR advances our common objective to addressenvironment, energy and water security challenges, which are critical toQatar and the region. ”Dr Omar said: “KISR’s approach to meetingchallenges is distinguished by a culture of openness, a commitment toour clients, and an integrated, cross-disciplinary approach and that theinstitute routinely embarks on strategic partnerships with otherregional and international institutes, agencies, and academic bodies,allowing an exchange of knowledge and expertise.
