‘Robust education system helps students hit by siege’

Qatar has distinguished itself in the world with progress made in theeducation sector, long-time Doha resident Reenu Malhotra told Qatar UrduRadio’s live show Haqeeqat yesterday.“Whether it’s Qatar University, Ivy League universities at QatarFoundation or the independent schools, the education system here is oneof the best in world today,” she said.Malhotra asserted that the robust education system helped facilitateQatari students affected by the siege and they were able to resume education here.“Among the 140 Qatari students who could not return to their institutesin Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, 66 of them are nowfinishing their studies at Qatar University, and some in the CommunityCollege. The government is doing its best to facilitate every studentand ensuring that their time is not wasted because of the siege.”She added that while Qatari students were banned from returning to theirinstitutes after the blockade start, Qatar took no such measuresagainst anyone from the blockading countries.“Whether it was the students from the blockading countries or peopleworking in different sectors and organisations, Qatar did not tellanyone to leave and accommodated everyone as much as it could,”Malhotra, who has worked in Qatar’s education sector as well as media,said.Haqeeqat, which aims to engage and interact with the large South Asianexpatriate community in Qatar, is a joint venture of the Gulf Times andQatar Media Corp Urdu Radio.
