Rota training on youth capacity building ends

Mena Youth Capacity Building in Humanitarian Action (Mycha) training concluded yesterday with youth participants from across the region taking part in a humanitarian response simulation.Organised by Reach Out To Asia (Rota), a programme of Education Above All, the intensive training programme held at Hamad Bin Khalifa University was designed to support the meaningful participation of youth in humanitarian contexts. The training delivers practical learning that can be immediately applied by youth in their home countries. During the first two days of the event, youth participated in workshops to refine their own humanitarian action projects proposal.Once the participants return to their home countries, they will continue to receive six months of ongoing support and mentorship by partner NGOs to help them deliver their planned youth-led humanitarian action projects, reiterating that youth action is at the heart of this training course.Mycha is the result of the ‘Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action’ that was launched at the 2016 World Humanitarian Summit. The results-driven initiative represents an unprecedented commitment to guarantee that the priorities of young people are addressed by the humanitarian system, and their participation in humanitarian action is supported and facilitated.Essa al-Mannai, executive director, Rota, said, “Through the training sessions of Mycha, Rota has provided the participating youngsters with the knowledge and skills needed to implement small-scale projects to help support communities in the case of an emergency situations and post-disaster or crisis relief. The event also equipped the participants with the practical knowledge they can immediately apply in their communities, which will in turn lead to them becoming active members the relief efforts in the case of humanitarian activities.”
