More than 20,000 visit new Medical City hospitals

HMCu2019s new Medical City hospitals are at the heart of the biggest healthcare facilities expansion in the region.
The Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has announced that more than 20,000outpatient visits were recorded between June and August this year at itsnew Medical City hospitals, which are at the heart of the biggesthealthcare facilities expansion in the region.In recent months the three hospitals – the Qatar RehabilitationInstitute (QRI), the Ambulatory Care Centre (ACC), and the Women’sWellness and Research Centre (WWRC) – have started to deliver a numberof inpatient and outpatient services.The QRI, one of the region’s largest tertiary rehabilitation hospitalsdedicated to delivering personalised, patient-centred, rehabilitativecare, was the first new Medical City hospital to open its doors.Thousands of patients have benefited from the state-of-the-artfacilities and care offered at the hospital’s outpatient clinics,including physical medicine and rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, speechtherapy, adult neuro occupational therapy, adult neuro physiotherapy,and day rehabilitation.Since March, the facility has also cared for a number of inpatients.The ACC, which when fully open will offer day care surgery to thousandsof patients each year, has also opened a number of new clinics in recentmonths, including outpatient podiatry services.Like the QRI, the ACC has seen a growing demand for its services.Patients are now benefiting from care delivered at various ACC clinics,including the Digestive and Liver Disease, and Digestive EndoscopyClinics.Urology services have also successfully relocated from the Hamad GeneralHospital to the ACC, and the number of patients being treated in thenew location grows each week.The WWRC, which will be one of the largest tertiary hospitals in theregion once fully open, is currently serving outpatients at itsuro-gynaecology, gynaecology-oncology, and colposcopy and hormonereplacement therapy clinics as well as the newborn screening unit.Dr Abdulla al-Ansari, acting chief medical officer for the HMC, saidthat the new facilities are helping to transform the care delivered topatients.He said: “In recent months we have seen more and more services deliveredfrom the wonderful new hospitals in Medical City, with thousands ofpatients being treated in what are world-class facilities supplied withthe latest and most advanced equipment.“The new services are designed to provide a safe and friendlyenvironment to our patients and their families, in line with HMCs visionof patient-centred care.”HMC chief of healthcare facilities Hamad al-Khalifa said: “Sincewelcoming the first outpatients to Qatar Rehabilitation Institute latelast year, we have seen an increasing number of clinics and servicesrelocating to our new Medical City hospitals.“This increase in activity and expansion of services will continue overthe following year as we deliver on our promise to bring world-classfacilities to the people of Qatar.”
