Police College signs MoU with Interpol

The Ministry of Interior(MoI), represented by Police College, has signed a memorandum ofunderstanding (MoU) with International Criminal Police Organisation(Interpol), on the sidelines of the First Major Event Safety andSecurity Conference.Major General Dr Abdullah Yousuf al-Mal, adviserto the Minister of Interior and Vice President of the Supreme Councilof the Police College, signed the MoU with Interpol Secretary GeneralJurgen Stok.In a statement, Major General al-Mal said that since itsestablishment, the Police College has been using various internationalacademies, colleges and universities and international organisations topromote the college and develop its academic and training curricula.Henoted that the MoU was a result of talks started two years ago withInterpol in New York City. Under the MoU, programmes will be implementedfor students nominated under the supervision of Interpol. TheInterpol secretary-general said: “It is important that we stand side byside, share and exchange information and help each other develop thecapabilities and skills police need to investigate cross-border crimes.This requires us to invest in police education and training, so theco-operation agreement between Interpol and the Police College iscritical to capacity building.”He said that the protection of majorsporting events is a priority for security men around the world and ofcourse “we look forward to seeing the 2022 FIFA World Cup here inQatar”.He stressed the importance of the First Major Event Safetyand Security Conference as the “world is facing unprecedented levels ofthreats, including terrorism, organised crime and cybercrime, sointernational police co-operation is becoming more important than ever”.Stoksaid that Qatar is investing a great deal in hosting this event and hasimportant initiatives to develop the tools at the international level,build a global platform to support Interpol and also develop the jointproject, “STADIA,” which is financed by Qatar.“We have built aplatform through which many experts around the world can meet not onlyfor law enforcement but also to communicate with the private sector andacademics to share their knowledge and help each other prepare andsecure these major events,” he added.
