QFCA event to highlight women’s role in business

TheQatar Financial Centre Authority (QFCA) will tomorrow host an inauguralladies breakfast event, under the theme “Empowering Women in Business”.Theevent, open through exclusive invitations only, has been organised inpartnership with Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, which is internationallyrecognised and celebrated globally every year on November 10.Globalambassadors and educational institutions from around the world representthe day by hosting events and conferences worldwide in the lead up tothe day, with the QFC also taking part, a QFC spokesman said.Apanel, consisting of top female business minds in Qatar, would presentthought-leading discussions surrounding business matters, including howto be an entrepreneur and the importance of reputation management.Speakersat the event include Sheikha Alanoud bint Hamad al-Thani, ManagingDirector, Business Development, QFCA; Dr Hessa al-Jaber, former ministerof information and communications technology and current chairperson,Trio Investment; Aysha al-Mudahka, chief executive, Qatar BusinessIncubation Centre and Fatma al-Nuaimi, Communications Director, SupremeCommittee for Delivery and Legacy.“The QFC continues to support thegrowing role of women in the workplace as an avenue for corporateexcellence and diversity. We are proud to be hosting and leading our ownevent in recognition of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day and I look forwardto hearing the discussions by our panel and guests on the day,” SheikhaAlanoud said.Community College to be reorganisedQNADohaHisHighness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday issuedEmiri Decision No 19 of 2017 on reorganising the Community College ofQatar (CCQ).  The Emiri Decision aims to bring the CCQ on par withthe other higher educational institutions in the country. The CCQ willgrant bachelor’s degree and introduce new specialties that serve thelabour market.The Emiri Decision introduced the CCQ, with itsheadquarters in Doha, as an independent academic institution foruniversity, academic, technical and applied education, and as a legalentity with a budget annexed to the general budget of the State. Otherbranches of the college may be established with a decision from theboard of trustees and based on a recommendation from the college’spresident. The CCQ aims to prepare technically specialised personnelthat are academically and scientifically trained in specialties thatmeet the society and the labour market’s needs. The college alsoaims to prepare its graduates with associate diploma degrees to bequalified to undertake bachelor’s degree at the college or at differentuniversities, as well as prepare graduates with bachelor’s degrees toenter the labour market. The college also aims to introducecontinuing education programmes and applied programmes depending on theneeds of the public and private sectors. A board of trustees willmanage the college. It will comprise of a head, a deputy head who shallreplace the head in his absence or in case of a vacancy, not less thanfive or more than seven members. A decision by the Prime Ministershall be issued upon the proposal of the Minister of Education andHigher Education for assigning the members and their salaries. Thecollege will have a president, board of academic staff members, anacademic council headed by the dean of the college, assistant deans,members, heads of departments and programmes of the faculty and a numberof professors, as well as student representatives chosen according tothe rules of the college.Port market plannedRuwais Port, which acts as Qatar’s northern trade gateway, has been witnessing a lot of activityand ship movements, Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) hassaid. Early this month, Mwani Qatar had announced that a ‘port market’would be opened at Ruwais Port.
