Adelegation from the Qatar International Court and Dispute ResolutionCentre (QICDRC) travelled to Sydney, Australia, in order to sponsor theAnnual Conference of the International Bar Association. The 2017conference, which finished at the weekend, was attended by more than4,000 judges, lawyers and other legal professionals who congregated toattend sessions on a wide variety of legal issues, includinganti-corruption, arbitration, construction, crime, health, human rights,environment, financial services, insolvency, intellectual property,international trade and Customs, litigation, mediation, media, mining,oil and gas, technology, and transportation.A highlight of the weekwas the Arab Regional Forum lunch, which also had - as its exclusivesponsor - the QICDRC. The lunch provided an opportunity for dialoguebetween legal professionals from various Middle Eastern countries aswell as those from the international legal and business community whoconduct business in the Middle East.QICDRC registrar ChristopherGrout said, “Once again, the Arab Regional Forum lunch has provided anexcellent opportunity for dialogue for those in the region as well asfor those outside it.” During the conference, Grout spoke aboutlitigation and arbitration in Qatar as well as about the importance ofemployment laws that strive to protect fundamental rights and freedoms.As to the latter, Grout talked about the improvements that had been madein Qatar following recent changes in the law and commented upon theemployment framework in the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC). JusticeFrances Kirkham, a judge of the QICDRC, was also part of the delegationand she focused on sessions relating to arbitration and construction.
