‘New transportation plan to be based on traffic survey’

Thenew Qatar transportation master plan will be based on an innovativeactivity-based traffic model, Anwar Ali Shah, a senior expert in designand infrastructure, told Qatar Urdu Radio’s live show Haqeeqat on Tuesday. “The consultants of the project are American professorswho will carry out a detailed survey among as many as 10,000 peoplebefore designing a model tailored for Qatar,” he explained. Shah iscurrently working on master planning and detailed design of Hamad PortPhase 2 and the new Qatar transportation master plan. “The surveyconducted will take into account information such as when people leavefor office, at what time children go to school, where people go forlunch among other details about the time people spend on the roads inthe country,” he said. “Many traffic and parking updates will beavailable online once the new model is implemented. For instance, peoplewill be able to see the availability of metro station parking on theirmobile phones,” he added.Haqeeqat, which aims to engage and interactwith the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar, is a jointventure of the Gulf Times and Qatar Media Corporation Urdu Radio.
