In his darkest moments, Matt Moore could not have envisioned a worse final start of the season. In an 11-4 Arizona victory Tuesday night, Moore retired three hitters, got a fourth out on a caught stealing and fell behind 8-0 before manager Bruce Bochy pulled him.Bochy is big on going into the offseason with a positive frame of mind, so after the Giants took their 96th loss and retook sole possession of the majors’ worst record, he will try to get Moore some relief innings this weekend at home.“I’ll find a way to get him out there for some work,” Bochy said. “I don’t want him to go out like this because he has been throwing the ball so much better.”JD Martinez destroyed Moore with a two-run double in the first inning and a grand slam in a six-run second.Moore would need more than a few scoreless innings against the Padres to avoid an ignominious mark. His ERA soared from 5.20 to 5.52, which would be the highest in the modern era (since 1901) by a Giants pitcher who started at least 30 games. Kirk Rueter holds that distinction with a 5.41 ERA in 1999.Moore, who had knocked more than half a point off his ERA with improved pitching since mid-August, said he would appreciate another chance to work this season.“I haven’t had a chance to talk to (Bochy) yet, but he’s taking the words right out of my mouth,” he said. “Obviously for the last start of the season, this is nothing I want to sit on heading into the break.”The Giants did have a few highlights.Tim Federowicz hit a two-run homer off starter Robbie Ray in the fifth inning after Bochy removed Buster Posey and Nick Hundley. Pablo Sandoval hit a right-handed RBI single and Joe Panik a sacrifice fly in a two-run seventh.Reliever Reyes Moronta continued to impress in his rookie season. He struck out Paul Goldschmidt, Martinez and Chris Iannetta in the sixth inning. At 62-96, the Giants matched the 1984 Giants for the third-most losses in franchise history. They still need one win over their final four games to avoid 100 losses.Jeff Samardzija makes his final start Wednesday in the Giants’ last road game. He faces Braden Shipley.RESULTSLA Dodgers 9 San Diego 2Seattle 6 Oakland 3Arizona 11 San Francisco 4Colorado 6 Miami 0St. Louis 8 Chicago Cubs 7Kansas City 2 Detroit 1LA Angels 9 Chicago White Sox 3Houston 14 Texas 3Milwaukee 7 Cincinnati 6NY Mets 4 Atlanta 3Minnesota 8 Cleveland 6Toronto 9 Boston 4Pittsburgh 10 Baltimore 1NY Yankees 6 Tampa Bay 1Philadelphia 4 Washington 1
