Medical students panel gets IFMSA membership

The Medicine Students Committee in Qatar has been granted an official membership by the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA).This success was achieved due to the hard work and dedication of the students from Qatar University College of Medicine (QU-CMED) and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q).The membership is beneficial for medicine and healthcare students at QU.It will provide them with the opportunity to meet and interact with their peers from 126 countries.They will also have the opportunity to unlock their potential and enhance their knowledge and skills through a wide range of workshops, seminars, student exchange programmes, and research collaborations.Commenting on this achievement, QU Vice President for Medical and Health Sciences and CMED Dean Dr Egon Toft said students from the College of Medicine, Qatar University initiated and led the initiation of the Medicine Students Committee in Qatar and the initial discussions and negotiations with the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA).He said that the Medicine Students Committee in Qatar is a joint organisation for the country and is the partner that has now got a seat in IFMSA.“We are proud that our students have led this initiative that is now a fully approved national joint association with the participation of CMED and WCM-Q for the benefit of the whole country”.Founded in 1951, the IFMSA is one of the world’s oldest and largest student-run organisations.It represents, connects and engages every day with a inspiring and engaging network of 1.3mn medical students from 136 national members organisations in 127 countries around the globe.
