QU Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Centre graduates 68 students

Some 68 students from Qatar University’s (QU) Arabic for Non-Native Speakers (ANNS) Centre have graduated this year, it was announced.The ninth batch of students of the Centre, under QU’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), comes from 25 countries, including Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Japan, Mali, Senegal, South Korea and the US.“This would not be achieved without the unprecedented support from QU’s presidency and CAS’ deanship which contributed effectively to make our centre one of the well-renowned Arabic language centres in the region,” ANNS Centre director Dr Abdullah Abdulrahman said at the graduation ceremony.The event was attended by CAS Dean Dr Rashid al-Kuwari, and representatives from the embassies of Turkey and Spain, as well as CAS department heads and faculty.Abdulrahman noted that the Centre attracts students from various cultural backgrounds. This year, the number of candidates has increased to 2,000, and the number of educational institutions to 30.“The Centre is committed to providing effective solutions to issues related to teaching Arabic for non-native speakers,” he said. “Research is one of the new pillars of QU’s Arabic language programme for non-native speakers. In this context, the Centre supports its members to participate in conferences, to publish their articles in peer-reviewed journals, and to provide advice to local and international bodies in the field of teaching Arabic as a foreign language,” Abdulrahman added.He said that the Centre also signed numerous agreements with international prestigious universities to establish collaboration in the field of teaching Arabic for non-native speakers.
