US delegation examines Qatar siege violations

Officials from the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has met with a delegation of ranking members of an American institute for foreign policy and national security and provided an overview of the committee's role in monitoring violations that occurred since the siege on Qatar, which affected both Qatari and GCC citizens.

The committee's officials said that their role focused on collecting the complaints, writing reports on them, then presenting them to international organisations such as the United Nations, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.The officials added that the committee's communication with these parties is still ongoing, in order to provide them with humanitarian developments resulting from the siege.They added that these parties continue to follow closely the developments of the siege on Qatar.A delegation from Amnesty International and one from Human Rights Watch had visited the committee and held meetings with the victims of humanitarian violations in the field of education, health, and ownership.The delegations also met with members of mixed Qatari-GCC families as well as people who were prevented from carrying out their religious rituals.They also said that the NHRC is only focusing on the humanitarian aspect of the crisis and is not interfering in the political aspects of it.The meeting also provided a number of examples of the humanitarian violations resulting from the siege.
