Qatar’s population for the month of June stood at 2,546,000, according to a statement from the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS). The statement showed there was a fall of 5.7% as compared to the previous month, which saw the country’s population touch 2.7mn for the first time ever. Usually, the population falls sharply between June 1 and August 30 as a large number of residents go on vacation during this period. The population at the end of last month was, however, 2.8% – or 69,000 – higher than in June 2016. The month of July generally sees the lowest population in a year. For instance, the figure at the end of July 2016 was 2,326,000 – the lowest in the year.
