Advisory on how to beat heat stress at work

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has issued tips on how to stay safe at work and avoid heat stress. The advisory, titled ‘Protect yourself at work’, has been published in the ministry’s Twitter account and contains information in three languages – Arabic, English and Malayalam.It also contains illustrations that explain the dos and don’ts to be observed while working in hot weather conditions.“Drink cool water every 15 minutes. Avoid tea, coffee, energy drinks and soft drinks,” the advisory said, noting that people should also schedule more frequent breaks during work.The ministry stressed that one should “eat right, eat light” in such conditions. “Wear light, loose clothing,” the advisory further said, reminding that workers should keep their heads covered when outdoors.The advisory came as a maximum temperature of 44C was recorded in the country yesterday at Batna, followed by 43C in Sheehaniya, Al Khor, Karana and Turayna, 42C in Al Rayyan, Jumayliya and Ghuwairiya, 41C in Doha and the Qatar University area, and 40C in Mesaieed.Today, a maximum temperature of 43C is expected in Al Khor, 41C in Doha, and 40C in Mesaieed and Wakrah.The detailed forecast also includes a warning for strong winds and high seas towards the north at times in offshore areas, according to the Qatar Met department.The wind speed in these areas may go up to 23 knots with the sea level rising to 7ft. Slight dust and some clouds are also likely offshore.Inshore, hazy conditions are expected in some places in the early hours, followed by a hot day with slight to blowing dust at times and some clouds.
