Doha Municipality Health Control inspectors conducted 1,894 inspection tours on the food facilities within the jurisdiction of Doha Municipality in April.These resulted in issuing of 15 violation reports in accordance with law No 8 of 1990 regulating human food control. Besides 14 administrative closure decisions were enforced on various food outlets for five to 30 days according to the violation.The doctors of the meat health unit at the Central Market at Abu Hamour Area checked carcasses of 73,422 sheep, 543 cows, and 528 camels. Around six tonnes of meat was destroyed as being unfit for human consumption. In addition the central market unit inspectors checked the validity of about 14,872 tonnes of fruits and vegetables and destroyed 56 tonnes. During the same period also, Doha Municipality received and addressed 84 related complaints. Similarly, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s (MME) Agriculture Quarantine Offices have checked 6,364 different consignments of imported agriculture products, weighing around 112,093 tonnes at various ports of the country in April.From these, 151 consignment weighing 21.58 tonnes were destroyed for being infected with various bugs. In addition, 10 other consignments of agriculture products weighing 135 tonnes which were exported were inspected and issued plant health certificates.Umm Salal Municipality in co-ordination with MME’s General Cleaning Department cleared 9,910 tonnes of household garbage during January- March, in addition to 10,404 tonnes of various refuse materials, 1,984 discarded tyres, 504 tonnes of scattered garbage and 390 carcasses of dead animals.
