Lukasek helms Djahab to smashing win

Al Jeryan Stud’s Djahab was unstoppable in a smashing Club Breeders Trophy victory at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club turf track yesterday.Tomas Lukasek gave Hadi al-Ramzani’s ward a go-ahead two furlongs out in the seven-furlong race for three-year-old Purebred Arabians, and the she blitzed away for a massive 14-length victory.Hassan al-Matwi-trained Raqee, ridden by JP Guillambert, was a comfortable second, 11 lengths ahead of Ibrahim al-Malki-trained Qaswarah, ridden by Saleem Golam.In Abu Dhalouf Cup, a Thoroughbred Handicap event for fillies and mares rated 76-90, al-Malki-trained Littlemissblakeney did well under Golam to hold her own against Jassim Ghazali-trained Hillside Dream for her first Qatar win.Golam, who had won four races on Wednesday, had his mount settle behind Injaaz Stud’s Ventura Shadow, who had another al-Malki charge, Fadak, for company at the front.On to the home stretch in the seven furlong race, Golam found a gap between the two early leaders and went through to take the advantage but Tadgh O’Shea had Hillside Dream surge forward and alongside Littlemissblakeney.The latter, however, held by a head, to win the penultimate race of the day.Al Shahania Stud’s Rasi won The Late Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Kuwari Cup, a Purebred Arabian Conditions event, by smallest of margins, edging out Hamad al-Jehani-trained Lucky Sand at the post by a short head for a win.Ghazali’s ward, who finished outside the top four only once in Qatar since December 2014, stayed midfield for the bulk of the race even as Mekhbatt and Carab set the pace up front.In the final two furlongs, Rasi moved into contention alongside Lucky Sand and Messine De Sinuhe, trained by Ghazali’s son, Mohamed.Eventually, Rasi did enough to win for the third time this season, while Julian Smart’s She’ris edged out Messine De Sinuhe by a neck for a top three finish.Umm Qarn’s Jalmoud raced to his first career win on his second outing ever with Jean Baptiste Hamel guiding the colt, trained by Alban de Mieulle, to victory in the Umm Bab Cup, a mile-long race for three-year-old Local Thoroughbreds.Al-Malki-trained Mister Lal was second under Golam, ahead of early leader Queen Maouya, with Almotasem al-Balushi astride.Osama al-Dhafa’s Black Treacle first win this season was with jockey Marco Monteriso, who guided the six-year-old to victory in the Class 6 Thoroughbred Handicap event for horses rated 46-60.The gelding had finished away from the top in his last couple of races, but yesterday he did well to edge out Injaaz Stud’s Hatchet Harry at the post, while Alberto Sanna helmed Deborah Mountain-trained Angel Of The Night to third.In the two maiden races that started the race day, Yousef Bentaher-trained Montaser and Zuhair Mohsen’s Founder registered their first career win respectively.Montaser shed his maiden status under Gerald Avranche’s ride in the six-furlong Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate event, while Marvin Suerland guided Founder to his first career win in 12 starts in the Class 6 Thoroughbred Maiden Plate event.RESULTSRace 1: 1.
