De Boer helps house homeless dogs, cats

More than 100 homeless dogs and cats have been housed at a tent provided to Qatar Animal Welfare Society (Qaws) by De Boer, a leading temporary structures organisation.In a statement yesterday, Qaws co-founder Janet Berry said the De Boer Doha office responded immediately following an urgent public appeal for donations. Last year, she recalled that the Qaws animal shelter was ruined after extensive surface flooding. An underground well burst onsite submerged the Muaither shelter, prompting its entire operation to be temporarily relocated at short notice. “The loan tent provided by De Boer Qatar has literally been a life saver. Within 48 hours of the flood disaster, it stepped up and provided a safe place for 100 plus dogs to live in,” she said.“We could not have continued without the kindness and generosity of some local companies. I can’t stress enough how De Boer Qatar really did save the day for our dogs. We are so very grateful,” Berry stressed.Such initiatives form part of De Boer’s commitment to support the local community, according to its account manager Graeme Pattison. Hundreds of pets, including two dogs, Eggy and Rex, are currently benefiting from the temporary shelter. Eggy, a white Labrador-Saluki mixed breed, has rickets (causing bone deformity), meaning he was malnourished before arriving at the shelter.While not life threatening, Qaws said the disease stunted his growth but the dog is now in good condition and enjoys being around people.A member of the public rescued Rex after having been found abandoned in the desert. Today, the dog is people-friendly and has a new appetite for life. The two dogs are looking to be adopted.Qaws is planning to relocate its 300 animals to a purpose-built permanent shelter, which is a process that could take up to 18 months.
