Ooredoo signs pact to support Best Buddies Qatar’s programmes

Ooredoo and Best Buddies Qatar have signed a three-year agreement that will see the telecommunications leader provide support for the organisation’s social and development programmes.The agreement was signed by Yousuf Abdulla al-Kubaisi, COO at Ooredoo Qatar, and Laalei Abu Alfain, executive director of Best Buddies Qatar, during a ceremony held at Ooredoo headquarters 1 in West Bay. Under the terms of the agreement, Ooredoo will provide financial support to the organisation as well as support through a host of its state-of-the-art services, including developing an app for Best Buddies Qatar and making sure the organisation is always connected through the company’s Supernet, according to a statement.“Ooredoo has a longstanding history of supporting community and humanitarian activities nationally, and we are pleased and proud to partner with Best Buddies Qatar to provide them with the support they need through our wide range of communications services,” al-Kubaisi said.“We are delighted to have Ooredoo as a partner for our organisation. Their enthusiastic support for building a culture of solidarity and inclusion, along with the advanced solutions they provide, will enable us to work together to achieve our main goal to end the social, physical and economic isolation of people with intellectual challenges,” Abu Alfain said.As part of the partnership agreement, additional services to be offered by Ooredoo include a hotline, SMS and MMS services, Hala lines and allowing donations through Nojoom Points.In addition to partnering with Best Buddies Qatar, Ooredoo has undertaken several other CSR-based initiatives across Qatar, including building and operating the Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Centre, which supports kidney patients in Qatar, and the new Ooredoo Cancer Awareness Centre.Launched by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser in 2008, Best Buddies Qatar is a humanitarian initiative that aims to establish a network of volunteers to help create opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
