Vehicles carrying garbage reach a new dump at Karadiyana, a suburb of Colombo, yesterday, after the city’s main landfill closed after a garbage mountain collapsed killing 32 people and destroying 145 homes. The municipality obtained permission from court to override protests from local residents and move garbage to Karadiyana as a temporary measure.
