Katara holds meeting of Senyar Championship participants

Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation has held a meeting of “sea-leaders” participating in the sixth edition of the Senyar Championship, which will be held from April 13 to 22.The meeting was convened to discuss and highlight the relevant guidelines and conditions for participation in the event, covering various aspects of the championship. It also included a detailed explanation of general instructions for the Al-Hadaq and pearl diving competitions, including the method of calculating results, timing, notifications and emergency, as well as a description of the championship sites. The sixth Senyar Championship will see various teams participate in the pearl diving competition from April 13, while Al-Hadaq will be launched on April 19 and the return will be on April 22.The Senyar Championship is expected to witness “strong competitive events this year as the number of participating teams has increased”, according to a press statement. The organising committee has awarded the title of “Sardar Senyar Qatar” to Mohamed Jowhar al-Sulaiti, first-place winner in the fishing competition last year, and Abdullah Jassim Sayyar al-Tamimi, first-place winner in the pearl diving competition. They will participate in the 2017 Senyar Championship by leading dhows to the fishing and pearl diving areas.The Senyar 2017 organising committee has also confirmed that April 11 will be the last day for participating dhows to join the championship. The committee will check all the dhows to ensure that they are suitably equipped and ready for the event.
