Over 300 people attend convention of Nepalese Muslim Society

The Nepalese Muslim Society (NMS) recently held its third convention at Holiday Villa. The convention was chaired by NMS president Abdul Hafiz Miya, and guests included Salim Miya Ansari, president of National Muslim Alliance (NMA); Nepali parliamentarian Mohammad Zakir Hussein; Mani Ratna Sharma, Charge de Affairs at the Nepali embassy; Abdulaziz al-Mohannadi, officer at the Department of Community Policing, Ministry of Interior; and Prof. Ramzan Ali Miya.  More than 300 people attended the programme.NMA president Salim Miya Ansari talked about the context of Muslim movement in Nepal, and the rights gained by the minority community. He reiterated the need of Muslim unity in Nepal to secure their rights. Parliamentarian Mohammad Zakir Hussein said that Nepali Muslims have already formed a major political power.On the same day, the Nepali translation of Qatar Labour Law 2016 was released. Prof. Ramzan Ali Miya, the translator, said that the translation was supported by Qatar’s embassy in Nepal. He added that the translation was approved and verified by Tribhuwan University, the largest Nepali university in Kathmandu. Prof. Miya had also translated the 2004 version of the same law and Qatar Resident and Immigration Law 2009. He said that he is going to translate the Resident and Immigration Law in the near future.NMS also unanimously elected its new working committee, led by Mohammad Ayub. Suraj Ismail Pant and Gaffur Ahmed are the first and second vice-presidents of the new working committee. Likewise, Sheikh Abdul Khaliq is the new general secretary, Hajarat al-Musalman is the secretary, MD Turbal Rain is the treasurer and Masood Azhar Musalman is the co-treasurer. Sheikh Jikrullah, Sheikh Shahabuddin, Mahtab Alam, Amina Khatun, Afsar Ali Khan, Osi Akhtar Teli, Kasim Rain, Mudassar Nazar, Amjad Adhikari, Nasarul Khan, Kalam Hussein Khan and Mohammad Tanweer are the new members of NMS.
