Slum dwellers search for valuables after a devastating fire destroyed their shanties in the Bangladesh capital, Dhaka. A fire swept through one of the largest slums in Bangladesh before dawn yesterday, destroying hundreds of homes and leaving thousands of people homeless. However, there were no immediate reports of any casualties, Xinhua news agency reported. The slum, called Korail-Boubajar, shelters about 300,000 residents. Eighteen fire fighting units rushed to the spot at about 2am, the police said. The blaze was doused at about 7am, said a firefighter, adding the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
