Conserving Building contest gets under way

Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp (Kahramaa) has started receiving entries for its 5th Conserving Building Competition as part of the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency, Tarsheed.The competition, launched by the Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department with the slogan ‘Green from the Ground Up’, is open to all buildings comprising industrial, governmental, commercial, and residential, sport and tourism sectors. It is open for all sectors but only completed buildings are eligible for the competition.All entries must be submitted with complete drawings (maps) such as site plan, sectional elevation depicting room height, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning and ventilation etc along with equipment schedule for the building, if available.Kahramaa will assess the applications/entries by site verification by an expert panel comprising research centres, universities and ministries.Tarsheed Conserving Building Competition recognises the buildings that incorporate, support and promote best practices in conservation of energy, water and other natural resources.Interested parties may apply for the competition via Kahramaa website www.km.qa/tarsheed where they will get the details.Entries will be accepted until March 20.Details are also available on 4484-6878.Participants are also advised to print the copy of the filled application and submit the same with the copies of necessary documents to the office of the Manager, Conservation & Energy Efficiency Department, 11th floor, Kahramaa Main office on or before March 20.The contest started primarily with four sectors in 2012 initially — Commercial, Government, Residential and Industrial sectors in its first year. Sports Venues Sector and tourism were added consecutively.Winning buildings from each sector shall receive an award and a certificate for being a role model in the field of Building Conservation and shall be honoured during the 5th Tarsheed annual celebration to be held in April 2017.‘Conserving buildings’ are buildings that reduce electricity and water consumption, carbon emissions, and provide better living for residents in State of Qatar.The National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency Tarsheed through its multi-folded strategies and initiatives, aims at reaching all segments of the society to create awareness for the conservation and to motivate the whole society to work together for a special cause, contributing to the goals and ambitions of the Qatar National Vision 2030.The prime target of the programme is to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption, save resources and decrease CO2 emissions.
