Director of Al Ayam Centre visits DCMF

Doha Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) acting director Abdul Rahman al-Obaidan has received Mahjoub Mohamed Salih, editor-in-chief of Sudanese newspaper Al Ayam and director of the Al Ayam Centre for cultural studies and development, at the DCMF headquarters. The heads of DCMF departments and several heads of units also attended the meeting. The visit was an opportunity to discuss aspects of co-operation between the two parties, according to a press statement. During the visit, Salih was introduced to the various departments and work units at DCMF, and provided with a comprehensive overview of the centre’s work. In a statement to the DCMF website, Salih lauded the role DCMF plays in monitoring violations against journalists, providing them with necessary aid and training, and publishing reports that serve media development, especially in the Arab world. Salih is a prominent journalist who has been working in media since 1949 and is the founder of one of the oldest independent newspaper in Sudan, Al Ayam. He received the Golden Pen of Freedom award in 2005.
