Fresh push to ‘reinforce code of values’ in schools

Qatar Charity (QC) has launched the fifth edition of the “National programme to reinforce a code of values” in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), Qur’an Kareem Radio and Tarbeya Centre for Future Leaders. QC and its partners aim to “activate value-based education in the community” through the programme, which will mainly target schools through “integrated and engaging educational and cultural content and by using creative and motivating methods for students” to enable them to constructively interact with their teachers and peers, according to a statement from QC. The programme’s competition, ‘value challenge’, focuses on listening to teachers. QC said it hoped to “positively and substantially” contribute to changing the behaviour of students and also direct their attention towards a number of chosen values every year through “engaging, effective and persuasive means”.The contest has different aspects. The first one, which is for students of different academic stages, involves drawing, theatre, writing stories, animation, photographing through Instagram, and Nabati poetry. Another aspect is dedicated to teachers with regard to practical experiments for behaviour modification, while the third field pertains to schools reinforcing values and charitable initiatives – schools that contribute to promoting students’ aptitude for good deeds and providing them with the techniques of humanitarian projects marketing. Finally, there is a space for guardians as well. What distinguishes the competition this year is “preparing value-based content and distributing it to schools in order to help teachers “foster the value of respect for the teacher”, the statement notes.Through the initiative, QC said it looked forward to achieving the following: reinforce the original values of students; strengthen communication values between the family and the school, which is considered the most important institute of socialisation, and between the students and their peers; through the positive proposal of values, emphasising the Qatari society’s “constancies and pillars”, develop a special ability of artistic creativity and encourage creative talents; discover the real talents of students and highlight them in their society; raise the quality of cultural projects that are available now in the educational system; contribute to the successful attainment of the “listening-to-teachers” value in classes; promote the prestige of the teacher and his respect’ and evolve the style of management at schools using developed and efficient methods.
