QU to host Sport Day activities at Katara

Officials from QU, Lekhwiya, CCQ and Ministry of Municipality and Environment announce details of QUu2019s National Sport Day celebrations.
Qatar University (QU) will celebrate the National Sport Day on February 14 in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Community College of Qatar (CCQ), and Katara Cultural Village (Katara).Details of the activities were outlined at a press conference yesterday by QU student services and activities director Abdulla al-Yafei, Lekhwiya Lt Nasser al-Jaber, CCQ head of student activities department Talal al-Mawlawi, and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment representative Nasser al-Dosari.QU will organise a series of sporting and fitness events at Katara.The celebratory programme will feature sport booths presented by QU coaches, faculty and students, and a health booth and healthy nutrition corner presented by members from the Physiotherapy and Sport Injury Unit at QU Student Activities Department in conjunction with QU College of Medicine and Sport Science Programme.Visitors will be briefed on the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They will have the opportunity to get free testing of body composition, vital capacity, upper body strength, lower body power, core body muscular endurance, and agility.The event’s programme will also include beach soccer and beach volleyball championships, physical fitness and sports training sessions, and sports activities for adults and kids, as well as a paragliding show performed by a team from QU Air Sports Club.Al-Yafei said QU highlights the importance of this national occasion by promoting collaboration among community members.“QU students will contribute to this event as organisers, coaches and participants. By engaging our students in national and social events such as the National Sport Day, we fulfil our goal to graduate successful leaders,” he said. Al-Jaber pointed out that the National Sport Day underlines the importance of exercise for building a healthy community.“This is our sixth participation in the National Sport Day and we are proud to collaborate with QU in raising community awareness on the importance of sports for maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” he said.
