Promo licences of two garment stores cancelled

The promotion and discount licences of two readymade garment shops were withdrawn after the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) detected violations of consumer protection regulations there. In a press statement yesterday, the MEC said it conducted an inspection campaign at a number of commercial outlets that had obtained discount and promotion licences. The inspectors found that prices had been raised at the two stores without authorisation and not posted clearly, thereby misleading consumers and constituting a violation of Law No 8 of 2008 on consumer protection. Accordingly, the two shops were issued violation reports and fined QR6,000 each. Their promotion and discount licences were withdrawn and the rest of the offer period was also cancelled, according to the statement.
