Wilson wins 5th round of Royal Air Maroc League

Mat Wilson outclassed Ahmed Elbourdainy to win the Men’s A category’s 90km-long fifth round at the Royal Air Maroc Cycling League.Dukhan was the venue of the leg on January 13. The area around Dukhan, the venue of the leg on January 13, is the only place in country where the roads are not flat. However, the GO Sport race was again accompanied by moderate wind, which was besides the rolling hills very important factor in the race.The start of the race was among the oil fields area. The riders had to tackle the route in direction to Umm Bab and back to Dukhan where depending on the category, there were one or two more laps around Dukhan.Qatar national team rider Ahmed Elbourdainy and Mat Wilson of Saber Performance made an attack in the first part of the Men’s A category race. Attack was decisive since the peloton couldn’t real the co-operative duo back. Wilson won in front of Elbourdainy. Khaled Elbourdainy of Qatar national team got the sprint of the peloton for third place. Farhan Farizi of Qatar junior national team was fourth and Marouane Znagui of QCR came fifth. The extra point meant that Farizi is taking over the lead in RAM league standing which is a great achievement for the young rider. Race in Man B was always the most exciting with large participation and similar quality of the riders. The winner was decided after 70 km of racing by a sprint of 15 riders group. Nehad Kadry was the fastest and is extending his lead in the  standings.Men C race was a 50km long race. Ronald Alan Alfonso of Pinoy Roadies defeated the serial winner of the C category Ahmed al-Subey of Lusail team and Abdulaziz al-Mohannadi of Lusail team, who is still leading in the RAM league standings. Geraldine Diaz of Giant RBS won the Women B category, while second place went to Bettina Zabat of 1507-RF-JAMP, who took over the scarlet jersey of RAM league leader.QCF technical secretary Andrej Filip expressed his satisfaction over the league races.“I am very satisfied with the course of our cycling league so far. With five races done out of 10 we are on half of it and it have been very exciting. We have seen different riders on the podium, many changes on the league standings and different routes every time.“It has become very popular within cycling community and I am sure it will only get better in the future,” Filip said.RESULTSMen A (89 km)1.
