German hunter displays frozen fox

A German hunter has set out a drowned fox frozen into a block of river ice as a warning of the dangers of thin ice on the river Danube.The animal fell through the ice of the river in the village of Fridingen in the southwest of the country, drowned and was then frozen into a solid block of ice, Franz Stehle told DPA yesterday.“We sawed the ice block, with the fox inside, out of the river on January 2 and then placed it on display in the courtyard of the hunting lodge as a warning (of the dangers of thin ice),” Stehle said.Stehle said that it was not unusual for animals living near the river to break through the ice.“Once I discovered a deep-frozen deer, and wild boar I have found three or four times already in the last 40 years,” he said.Stehle stressed that the frozen fox was natural, not a prank.
