Three expats get jail term for stealing cables

A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced three expatriate Asian men to one year in jail and subsequent deportation for stealing electric cables from the storehouse of the company where they used to work. Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the first defendant who was employed as a foreman at the company, and two of his colleagues, a driver and an electrician, stole the cables. They hatched a plan for stealing the material and selling it off to an outside party for personal gain, the report said.According to the prosecution, the defendants sold the stolen cables for QR1,000 and divided the money among themselves. After being caught, the suspects confessed to the crime before the police and later before the trial court, the report added.Man sentenced to six months in jail for stealing phoneAn African expatriate man has been sentenced to six months in jail and subsequent deportation for stealing a mobile phone from a shopper at a commercial complex in the Industrial Area.Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the suspect was identified with the help of the surveillance camera at the shopping complex.He was later arrested by the police, who had launched investigations after receiving a complaint from the victim, who said he had lost his mobile phone at a particular place at the mall.Accordingly, the recording of the surveillance cameras were reviewed and the convict was arrested and put on trial.Big push for local produceThe yards for selling local agricultural products at Al Mazrouah, Al Wakrah, Al Khor and Al Thakhira sold 34,000 boxes of fresh vegetables between January 5-7. The yards, an initiative of the Agriculture Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), were able to market 39,300 boxes of fruits during the same period, in addition to 276 trays of locally produced chicken eggs, 1,525 domestic birds, and 815kg of honey. Besides, 267 heads of goats and sheep were sold, and 371 heads were slaughtered at Al Mazrouah slaughterhouse. The honey festival at Al Mazrouah between January 5-7 was able to generate QR230,000 from the sales of 710kg of honey (QR215,000), and 55kg of honeybee wax (QR15,000).
