QC Distributes Food Baskets to Confront Famine in Yemen

Food packets ready for distribution among Yemen's poor
Qatar Charity (QC) has completed preparations fordistributing basic food aid to 700 families living in poverty, marginalisedgroups and war-affected civilians in Ibb city, central Yemen.

The deteriorating living and health conditions resultingfrom the five-year conflict, high poverty rates among about 12,000 families,high numbers of internally displaced persons, unemployment, high numbers oforphans, widows, and sick children are strong grounds that led QC to quicklyrespond to disaster and relief appeal launched by local authorities of Ibbgovernorate.

According to field information, more than 70% of Al Qafrdistrict’s total population of 140,000 is afflicted by hunger. The reports of thegovernorate health office indicate that 14 children under age five died inOctober-November 2016 due to food shortage and lack of health care services.

"QC's project that is dedicated to confronting famineand poverty in Yemenwill distribute two-month food rations to 700 families. The foodstuff willinclude 50 kg of milled wheat, 10 kg of sugar, 10 kg of rice, 3 kg of salt, 500grams of tea, 3-liter of oil , 900 grams of milk and 25 cans of tomatopaste," Nasr Qaed Alzaeem, the Director of QC's office in Yemen said.

The Director of QC's office in Yemenhas extended the deepest thanks to Qatar for supporting their Yemenibrothers who are living in bad conditions due to the ongoing crisis.
