Sheikh Faisal Sports Academy (SFQ) has appointed Islam Elrayes as its general manager. “Elrayes will work to further enhance the academy’s operations and generate new line of activities and events, besides boosting the existing ones,” it was mentioned in a statement yesterday.Elrayes has to his credit impressive management experience as he worked as an internal auditor at KPMG for four years and later as internal audit manager at Al Faisal Holding.The company is one of the leading holding companies in the region with more than 30 subsidiaries in Qatar, in addition to investments in Jordan, Algeria, Lebanon, the UK, Germany and the US. Elrayes is also a medals awarded athlete, and holds a 4th Dan black belt in Taekwondo. He is a member of Qatar’s Taekwondo referees, an ex-member of Egypt’s national team, in addition of scoring a good number of medals at local and international tournaments between 1992 and 1997.He also holds under his belt the universities’ local and international heavyweight championship for the years 1996 and 1997, and Qatar heavy weight champion for the years 2012 and 2013. “With the help of the outstanding SFQ Academy team, I will help to broaden the base of sports activities in the Academy to include all ages. We will also work to develop the system assistance to the secretion of talent, with the expansion plan in Qatar to cover all areas,” Elrayis said.He also thanked “HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani and the board of directors for their trust.” SFQ sports academy was established in 2012 with the guidance and support of HE Sheikh Faisal.
