Emir attends Darfur celebrations

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani yesterday participated along with Sudan’s President Omar Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir in the celebrations of completing the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur.The event was held in Al-Fashir in the Sudanese state of North Darfur. It was also attended by Presidents Idriss Deby of Chad, and Faustin-Archange Touadera of the Central African Republic besides members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir and a number of Sudanese ministers and senior officials, representatives of governments and regional and international government and non-government organisations and unions, and a large number of people.The Emir and the presidents of Sudan, Chad and Central Africa also visited an exhibition on the sidelines of the celebrations.The dignitaries were briefed about the first phase of Qatar’s economic, investment and charity projects in Darfur. The projects includes providing the region’s five states with schools, health centres, as well as construction work being carried out by the Sudanese government. They were also updated on the joint projects being carried out between Sudan and Chad in the region. The Emir later attended a luncheon banquet held by the Sudanese president.A number of officials attended the banquet.The Emir later departed Sudan.He was seen off by the Sudanese president.Assistants of Sudanese president Moussa Mohamed Ahmed and Major-General Adul-Rahman Sadeq al-Mahdi were present.Qatar’s ambassador to Sudan Rashid Abdul-Rahman al-Nuaimi and Sudan’s ambassador to Qatar Fath al Rahman-Ali were at the airport as well.The Emir sent a written message to Bashir, thanking him for the good reception.He also expressed pleasure at the success of Qatar and Sudan in achieving peace and stability in Darfur, something that will be a boost to sustainable development.The Emir wished the president of Sudan and the Sudanese people further progress.Earlier in the day, the Emir and his accompanying delegation were welcomed upon arrival at El Fasher Airport by the Sudanese president and other officials including the ambassadors of Qatar and Sudan.(Left) HH the Emir attends the Darfur celebrations.  (Top right) HH the Emir tours the exhibition.  (Bottom) HH the Emir being given a ceremonial welcome.
