Eid al-Adha begins on September 12

The annual Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha will begin on September 12 after religious authorities in Saudi Arabia failed to sight the Moon on September 1, Saudi media have reported.The Saudi Supreme court yesterday confirmed the date of the festival in a tweet.Arafat Day, the climax of the annual pilgrimage, will fall on Sunday, September 11.Eid al-Adha comes one day after Muslim pilgrims stand on Mount Arafat in the outskirts of Makkah as part of their pilgrimage.Accordingly, yesterday, September 2, will be the last day of the Hijri month of Dhul-Qa’da and today, September 3, will mark the beginning of the lunar month of Dhu al-Hijja.Meanwhile, the International Astronomical Centre (IAC) has announced that September 12 is the first day of Eid al-Adha in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Turkey and Japan, according to the news agency Barq.The IAC, a scientific centre based in Abu Dhabi, has members in different countries in the world.
