Kuwait’s National Assembly speaker hails Qatar ties

Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim hailed the close ties between the State of Qatar and Kuwait. Al-Ghanim said that Qatari-Kuwaiti strategic relationship is deep-rooted in history.In an interview with Qatari daily Al Sharq published yesterday, al-Ghanim highlighted the collaboration between Qatar’s Advisory (Shura) Council and Kuwait’s Parliament, describing it as a successful and perfect example of co-operation between parliaments.He said that the Qatari Advisory Council is a main supporter and an actor in the success of the Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (APU). The Qatari Advisory Council is a formal framework for public participation in the management of the country’s affairs, he said, adding that the Qatari parliamentary experience is advanced and noteworthy thanks to the faith of the Qatari leadership, headed by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.About Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022, Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker stressed that Qatar’s hosting the World Cup will form an important milestone in organising World Cup tournaments, thanks to Qatar’s good management and organisation skills demonstrated in previous tournaments.On the trade exchange between the two countries Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim said that this has not reached the required extent yet.Regarding the Palestinian cause, al-Ghanim said the issue must be in “our Arab conscience as a central issue, and to be at the forefront of the political and humanitarian concerns’’.He also said that diplomatic struggle should be continued in every continental or international forum to reveal the fact about Israel and its continuing abuses against Palestinian rights.On the Syrian crisis, al-Ghanim stressed the need to reach a political solution that is regionally and politically supported, and to stop the bloodshed and destruction of the infrastructure in Syria, noting to Kuwait’s hosting of three international donor conferences to help the Syrian people and contribute to solving the crisis.On Yemen, Kuwait’s National Assembly speaker said that his country hosted peace consultations between Yemeni parties to contribute to reaching a solution to stop the bloodshed and restore stability.On the relations with Iran, he confirmed the desire of Kuwait and all GCC states to create a calm atmosphere and to enjoy good neighbourly relations with Iran, stressing at the same time that Gulf security and stability is sacrosanct, adding that all the Gulf states and Iran are equal partners in this region.Al-Ghanim also talked about the GCC, saying that despite all the circumstances, the continuation of the GCC for 35 years is a success.He indicated that the GCC may not live up to the level of the ambition of GCC citizens, but existing co-operation must be built upon.
