Doha forum discusses impact of Islam on trade

The 3rd edition of the ‘Trade in Islam’ forum was held on Monday evening in the presence of HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani.The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) and Eid Charity for the third consecutive year with the participation of eminent Islamic scholars and clergymen. It was also a part of MEC’s Ramadan initiatives. The participating intellectuals talked about issues such as the considerable impact of Islam on the concept of trade and business, and the principles and regulations determined in Islam for trade. Other topics of discussion included the trader between egoism and humanitarianism, the ethics of a Muslim trader, trade initiatives that had changed the course of history, and trade initiatives of young people.The participants included Kuwaiti businessman and scholar Dr Tariq al-Suwaidan, Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmed al-Buainain, Kuwaiti intellectual Dr Mohamed al-Awadi, and other businessmen.Most scholars stressed the need to enhance ethical and humanitarian practices in trade and the need to encourage young people to adopt a spirit of initiative and creation. Besides, they highlighted the need to support small and midsize enterprises and help young people to put their ideas and innovations into practice.Eid Charity chairman Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Eid al-Thani, Qatar Chamber vice chairman Mohamed Ahmed bin Tuwar, other senior businessmen and other dignitaries attended the forum.
