The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is participating in the ongoing 9th GCC Municipal Work Conference in Doha.The three-day conference is expected to conclude tomorrow. It is being held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.At the opening yesterday Ashghal president and senior engineer Nasser bin Ali al-Mawlawi was present along with the ministers of municipal affairs of the Gulf States, representatives of government entities and municipalities in the GCC, and a number of representatives of the private sector institutions.The conference represents an important event to discuss the municipalities’ role in achieving sustainable development goals in the Gulf region in light of the economic variables experienced by the region.At the conference Ashghal is presenting two work papers dealing with a host of issues of public concern. The first work paper addresses such topics as sustainable development and renewable and non-renewable natural resources, quarries in Qatar, the life cycle of natural raw materials, types of rocks used in the construction of roads, the role of the country and municipalities in adopting the approach of sustainable development and the role and achievements of Ashghal in this field.The second work paper deals with components of integrated management of sewage, industrial waste, surface water, and rain water, and the components of integrated management of solid waste, the integration of the concerned parties and developers in the country to apply sustainable development with the available environmental systems.The participation of the authority is within the framework of strengthening awareness about the role it is playing in coordination with various entities and government institutions to support sustainable development in Qatar.
