Qatar’s Ogunode bests Jamaica’s Blake in 100m

Qatari sprinter Femi Ogunode dethroned former world champion Yohan Blake of Jamaica with a season-leading time of 9.91 seconds at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, in Gainsville, University of Florida, on Saturday. The Qatariu2019s performance is the best 100m showing of 2016. Ogunode, whose Asian record also stands at 9.91s, finished ahead of USAu2019s Isaiah Young and Jamaican Nickel Ashmeade, who both stopped the clock at 10.03s. Ogunode is currently training in the US in preparation for the August 5-21 Rio Olympics. Jamaican Blake, with a best timing of 9.69s, is worldu2019s joint second fastest in 100m alongside Tyson Gay of the US, after compatriot Usain Bolt. His personal best for 200m (19.26s) too is the second fastest ever after Bolt.
