Katara – the Cultural Village recently recognised 51 artists from 21 nationalities who have participated in the first phase of its “Katara Murals with the Brushes of Artists” project.A ceremony was held on the occasion, which included a film screening that recorded the phases of finalising the paintings aimed at enhancing interaction between artists and the audience. Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti noted that the project involved a large number of artists - both Qataris and expatriates - who belonged to around 20 nationalities. “Art is the common language between people, irrespective of their differences. This comes as part of Katara’s mission of building bridges between cultures,” he added. The official said the project affirmed Katara’s cultural and artistic richness, which inspired artists. It would also help in exhibiting the beauty of Katara, whose facilities combined heritage and modernity. “It was a totally different and unique experience for most artists to paint such huge murals,” said Qatari artist Bashir al-Ansari.Dr al-Sulaiti thanked Qatar Fine Arts Association chairman Yousef Khalifa al-Sada, Visual Arts Centre president Hanadi al-Darwish and the project overseeing team led by Mohamed Abdulaziz al-Meer.
