Expat faces jail and deportation for stealing mobile

A Bangladeshi expatriate man got a jail sentence of onemonth and subsequent deportation by a Doha Criminal Court for stealing themobile phone of his coworker.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday that thePublic Prosecution had referred the defendant to the court, accusing him ofstealing the mobile phone of his colleague who reported it missing from underhis bed.

The records of the telecom provider showed that thedefendant used the SIM card of the missing phone to conduct a number of calls.Then, police found the phone with him.

However, the defendant claimed that he found the phone athis company's lounge, asked around if someone had lost a phone, and started touse it when no one claimed.
