Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, chairman, Al Faisal International for Investment (AFII), welcomed a delegation from Qatar University (QU) at his Museum in Shahaniya recently. More than 1,200 students have benefitted from Al Faisal Educational Fund, which was created in 2009 as a joint initiative between Qatar University and Al Faisal International for Investment. The Al Fasial Educational Fund was created to enhance the education of Qatar University’s College of Business and Economics students. The goal of the fund is to link theoretical studies with hands-on experience at the Qatar stock exchange and other Gulf markets. It gives students at QU a unique opportunity to learn investment and gain scientific and practical experience in stock trading.Al Faisal Educational Fund worked on financing a portfolio to allow students studying at the Faculty of Management and Economics, to actually invest in the Qatar Exchange in order to refine the investment talents and train them to take studied investment risks, through the provision of capital to allow students to carry out real investments and the creation of investment portfolios for them to manage under the supervision of faculty members. On this occasion, Sheikh Faisal said: “The investment in our youth is synonymous with investment in the future of our beloved country Qatar. I firmly believe that it’s our responsibility to build a new generation of investment experts who will go on to become skilled entrepreneurs. They will reflect the true picture of our youth by leading the small and medium business segment that will support our local economy. “Commenting on the initiative, Dr Nitham Hindi, dean, College of Business and Economics at Qatar University, said: “We thank Sheikh Faisal for his continued support in providing the educational fund, which is consistent with Qatar University’s strategic plan, as well as the College of Business and Economics’ mission statement. Further, the Al Faisal Educational Fund provides our students with a unique opportunity to learn first-hand about socially responsible investment and to gain a practical understanding of the operation of the Qatar Exchange. The students will also be provided the opportunities, support, mentorship and resources that they need to realise their ambitions.”
