Qatar's population rises 2.1% to 2.46mn

Qatar's population has grown by more than 2.1% over the last month, according to figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.

As per the statement issued by the ministry on Tuesday, the population has crossed 2,463,000 against last month's tally of 2,412,000. The latest figure is the highest ever in the country.

If the previous years' figures are any indication, there could be a fall in the population at the end of December. Usually a large number of the country's residents, mainly expatriates, fly out in the second half of December.

The ministry also informed that compared to the corresponding period last year, there has been an increase of nearly 8.8% in the latest population figure.
