Noted Palestinian political figure Azmi Bishara will deliver the opening remarks at an academic symposium on the future prospects of the Palestinian national struggle, hosted by the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) in Doha from tomorrow. Bishara will deliver his lecture tomorrow morning and is expected to frame discussions during the two-day event, taking place at Palazzo Hall, Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl - Doha.“The meeting is the second of its kind to be hosted by the ACRPS in Doha in the last two years and builds on a growing interest in the future prospects of the Palestinian national movement, in the midst of increasingly defiant Palestinian resistance to the Israeli occupation,” a statement notes.Participants will focus on three main themes at the event: the stalled peace process and the prospects for a two-state solution; the transformations of the Palestinian armed struggle; and the dilemma facing Palestinian political factions.Marwan Kabalan, ACRPS associate researcher and one of the main organisers of the event, said: “In the midst of very complicated regional circumstances, the Palestinian political leadership has some tough decisions to make, with the Palestinians of the Occupied Territories taking individual action in defiance of the occupation, and the peace process proving its futility beyond doubt. This meeting will help envision possible ways forward.” Participants include former Lebanese cabinet minister Tarek Mitri, founding director of Mada al Karmel: the Arab Centre for Applied Social Sciences in Haifa, Nadim Rouhana, British barrister and international law expert Salma Karmi-Ayoub and former Fateh military commander Mouien al-Taher.Simultaneous translation between Arabic and English will be available throughout the event.
