QAFCO Open Tennis championship concludes

By Sports Reporter/DohaThe 26th QAFCO Open tennis championship concluded amid much fanfare at the Al Banush Club in Mesaieed after three weeks of exciting action.The current edition of the championships had started on October 19, 2015.Speaking on the occasion, QAFCO Open Tennis organising committee chairman and Qafco chief administration officer Dr Hamed al-Marwani said, “The Championship, the oldest of its kind in Qatar, continues all along with renewed momentum evolving into a prestigious annual gathering of the Qatar’s tennis community. I am happy to that Qafco is playing its part in promoting sports as part of its social responsibility.” In the current edition, a record 400 players participated in more than 400 matches played across 22 categories. Based on popular demand, two new categories — Girls’ Doubles Junior (GDJ) and Boys’ Doubles’ Junior (BDJ) — were also added. The championship, like every year, witnessed keenly-contested matches.The championship which has built a reputation for excellent organization features keenly contested matches and enjoys broad popularity all over Qatar.Through the years, the Championship has attracted players across age groups, reflecting growing popularity of tennis in Qatar. The championship is a hunting ground for some of the renowned players like Sultan Khalfan, Amir Bayoumi, Amir Ibrahim, Mohd Abdulla al-Ansari, and others. The entry and participation in QAFCO Open tennis Championship is open to all residents of Qatar, males, females and children.
